I love working with other therapists that have a passion for EMDR and/or Internal Family Systems (IFS) work. If you have dipped your toes into the IFS waters at all, you know that getting into leveled training is extremely difficult. In fact, the cohort I was a part of had a better chance of getting into an Ivy League School then our Level One training!
My goal is to help bridge the gap for those who find themselves wanting to help clients utilizing IFS work while waiting for or considering applying for an IFSI Leveled Training.
What makes working with me unique is that I was a full-time professor for 8 years and still teach as an adjunct. When I worked in higher education full-time, my greatest joy was helping students find their place in the field of social work.
Sure, it took some trial and error, but when it clicked and students found their passions, it was the coolest thing to be a part of.
I look at consultation and training much the same way. I bring a lot of joy and passion for the work to the group, but my main goal is to help you find your path for your practice of therapy. I am not a trainer or consultant who encourages participants to copy and paste what I do. I encourage you to take examples and experiences within the group and tailor them to your client and your way of doing therapy.
Yes, there are protocols and ethical boundaries we must all adhere to, but that is not what I am talking about. I am talking about the rapport-building and connection-finding parts of healing work that is the meat and potatoes of therapy. You need to find a way to do this that feels natural and comfortable to you. Learning something new, like IFS or EMDR is going to stretch your skills, and that is okay! That is where I come in. We hone the skills so that they are second nature and you can focus on being present and finding the flow of your work with clients.
This three-hour workshop is for anyone interested in learning more about IFS and providing it as a therapeutic intervention with your clients. We will cover the basics of the IFS model, see portions of a demo, and do some experiential activities. This workshop is not designed to replace Level One training through IFSI. You will leave with basic knowledge of the IFS model, practical examples of implementing steps of the model, basic experience of “going inside” and how to guide clients in that space.

This workshop will have demos, practice, teach, and experiential portions that allow you to work on the delicate work of unburndening a client’s system. This is not designed to replace trainings from the IFSI institute. You will leave with a greater understanding of exiles, the process of unburdening an exile, and integration in the system.

Just like finding a therapist, it is vital that you feel a connection with and sense of trust with any consultant you work with. You might already know you want to join one of my groups or trainings, but in case you are on the fence still, here are some things to consider:
Are open to learning from others’ experiences not just your own
Prefer to practice skills in consultation groups
Enjoy engaging with other providers
Can hold space that we all might approach cases differently, and we can all still learn from one another
Need EMDRIA and IFSI consultation hours
Don’t feel comfortable sharing cases with others (consider individual consultation reach out over email)
Are looking for supervision (consultation is different than supervision)
Are looking for a copy and paste way to do your therapy sessions
Here is a chart explaining the differences between the two:
ASPECT
SUPERVISION
CONSULTATION
Formality
Formal, ongoing
Informal or as-needed
Evaluator Role
Supervisor evaluates and guides
Consultant offers advice, no evaluation
Responsibility
Shared responsibility for client care
Sole responsibility remains with the therapist
Purpose
Development and accountability
Guidance on specific issues or expertise
Requirement
Often mandatory for licensure
Voluntary, situational
Both processes are vital tools for maintaining professional growth and ensuring ethical, effective practice, but they cater to different stages and needs in a therapist's career.
The consultation groups don’t count towards those hours because I am currently in the middle of getting my certification for both EMDR and IFS. Once I do, I will be thrilled to offer that added benefit to my consultation groups. If you don’t know what that means, check out this info from EMDRIA and IFSI about certification.
